The Double Cab was Volkswagen's answer for anyone who needed to haul a crew and a load at the same time, and because they were bought as tools, most of them were used up and thrown away. Finding a 1964 that's straight is the hard part, and this truck was a good one before any work started. It's been gone through since, with everything either replaced or rebuilt, and it turned out well enough to show while still being something you'd actually drive.
Exterior
The body is finished in a deep grey, professionally sprayed in two-stage paint. Safari windows up front are the detail most people notice first, and the bed hoops and canvas were custom made for the truck. A set of deluxe trim comes with the sale
Interior
The cab is finished in black. The second row of seats is the whole reason the Double Cab exists, and it's what separates this from a single cab pickup, giving you a back seat without giving up the bed behind it. With the safari windows open, the front of the cab gets more air moving through it than any bus with fixed glass.
Drivetrain
Power comes from the air-cooled flat-four mounted in the rear, driving the rear wheels through a manual gearbox, exactly as Volkswagen built the Type 2 in this era. It runs on gasoline. Plan a visit and we will walk you through the engine bay in detail.
Restoration
The truck was a solid starting point, with rust limited to the rockers and the lower nose. Those sections were cut out, repaired and replaced with new metal, and it's rust free now.
