Sixty years ago this Mustang left the line in Emberglo Poly under a white convertible top, and it hasn't been apart since. No repaint, no retrim, no rebuild. Survivors in this condition get harder to find every year, because most were restored decades ago or driven into the ground.
The Emberglo is what people notice first. It was a rare color when it was new, and the copper metallic in it shifts with the light in a way modern paint rarely manages, framed by the white top.
Inside, it's a time capsule. The door closes with a solid thud, the seats have an honest patina, and the cabin smells like a car from another era. Twist the key and the V8 settles into a warm mechanical idle, with the automatic handling the shifting so you can drop the top and cruise. It's an unchanged piece of the 1960s, still doing exactly what it was built for.
Exterior
Emberglo was a 1966-only color and it was never a common order, so most people have never seen one in person. What makes this car worth more than a repainted example is that all of it is the original finish and the original brightwork: the headlight rings, the running horse in the grille, the rear bumper, the tri-bar taillights, the rocker trim, the tall single antenna at the quarter, it's all factory. Reproduction chrome never quite matches, and once a car has been apart, it can't go back to being untouched.
Interior
The Parchment interior is the one the car rolled off the production line with, never re-covered or re-dyed. Pleated buckets, ribbed door panels with chrome window cranks, and the ivory-rimmed three-spoke wheel in front of the round factory gauges are all as-delivered.
C-Code 289 V8
The C-code 289 in this car is the one Ford installed, still wearing its blue air cleaner with the 289 decal on the lid. The engine bay is unrestored, showing the honest wear of sixty years rather than a rebuild made to look like new.
Top-Down Motoring
Automatic and rear-wheel drive, so there's nothing to learn and nothing to manage. Drop the top, and it does exactly what a 1966 convertible is supposed to do, with gearing suited to cruising rather than hurrying.
Trunk and Spare
Even the trunk plays its part, complete with its correct plaid liner, a spare wheel and tire, and the jack assembly all tucked neatly in place.
Included
- One set of keys (including both the ignition and trunk/glovebox keys)
